MOUNTED SCHEDULE
Check out www.bigirons.com for the full schedule of Guns of August Events
THURSDAY, AUGUST 11TH
Grounds will be open to come and set up camp. Stoneburner will be there Thursday afternoon. All are welcome to come out, take a look at the arena and ride the woods trails.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 12TH
8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
NOW JUST AT 10 A.M.
Opening Ceremony for the ground shooters. All riders, whether competing later or not, are invited to come participate. A Grand Entry along with the National Anthems of the United States and Canada (there is always a large contingent of Canadian shooters) will occur. Riders may participate in one ceremony, both or none. Wear your finest cowboy or cavalry gear-it’s a chance for us to show off a bit, and we have always been very well-received and appreciated!
ALL AROUND COWBOY-Two ground stages will be shot for $25 by interested mounted shooters; those two stage times will be added to the shooters' overall mounted times to decide the All Around Cowboy! Shooters will need two pistols with 20 rounds of ammunition (lead bullet only, no jacketed ammo), a rifle, also with 20 rounds, and a shotgun with 12 rounds of ammo (shot no larger than 7 1/2) along with eye and ear protection. All SASS rules apply for the ground stages.
Throughout the day, shooters are invited to ride in the arena, look at the stages, ride through the woods examining those stages and ask any questions that may arise. There will also be plenty of Cowboy and Food Vendors at the Ground Shooter’s Range to go take a look at and spend some of your wages on!
4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Side matches, including Fast Five, Rifle, Cavalry (any time period, and loading your own cap-n-ball revolvers with blanks is permissible) and Team matches, numbers permitting. The ground shooters are invited to come up to watch us, then we will host…
6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
…the Muleskinner Challenge! Ground shooters will be invited to pay $5 a piece to be towed with a partner around a course in a miniature buckboard, shooting along the way, with the winning team getting braggin’ rights ‘til next year! If you haven’t seen it before, it’s a real hoot, and based on past experience, we’re setting the end time so the mounted shooters will get to actually go to bed Friday night!
SATURDAY, AUGUST 13TH
FIRST FOUR STAGES OF THE BIG MATCH!
9:30 a.m.
Safety Meeting
10:00 a.m.
First shot fired
6:30 p.m.
Guns of August Banquet and Awards. Your entry fee includes a Banquet ticket, but you must purchase extras separately as seen in the entry flyer. While everyone is encouraged to attend, it is not mandatory, but if you don’t go your ticket fee cannot be refunded. If anyone knows in advance that they will be staying at the arena Saturday evening, please notify Stoneburner; otherwise, he will ask the local Boy Scout Troop to act as security at the mounted grounds, giving them a few emergency contact numbers in case anything should come up with the horses.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 14TH
8:00 a.m.
Cowboy Chapel down at the ground range
10:00 a.m.
Quick review of Saturday’s safety meeting followed by the last two stages of the match. As riders clean up and pack up, results will be compiled so that the Overall Match Winner Awards can be given before other awards are drawn for and folks head home!
Again, if you have any questions, please contact Stoneburner.
